The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Council for the Social Studies will host a professional development workshop for social studies teachers Aug. 10-11 in Eagle Hall.

“Rights and Responsibilities: Strategies for Today’s Social Studies Teachers” will focus on civics and law-related education and is open to all social studies teachers in the region.

There is no charge for the workshop.

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, the American Board of Trial Advocates Foundation (ABOTA) will present the East Texas Teachers Law School. Topics will include “Separation of Powers,” “Federal vs. State Rights,” Social Media in the Classroom: A Great Teaching Tool or Legal Pitfall?” and more. “Heads Up: Making Citizenship, History and Government Come Alive in the Classroom” will be the focus of the Thursday, Aug. 11, session. There also will be group sessions for elementary and secondary teachers.

The workshops begin at 8AM each day.
