Steven Spielberg Reveals Which ‘Indiana Jones’ Is His Least Favorite (No, Not That One)
Steven Spielberg, prolific and legendary as he is, has had plenty of flops in his time, and he’s not afraid to let everyone know which of his many film children he likes the least. While making the new documentary Spielberg, documentarian Susan Lacy spent more than 30 hours interviewing her subject, and during some of those sessions he told her which of his Indiana Jones films he likes the least. No, it’s not that one.
IMAX Switching Their Attention from 3D to More 2D Screenings
It seemed like 3D was having itself a little moment there for a while, spurred on by the success of James Cameron’s Avatar back in 2009. But it seems like the 3D era is nearing an end, as 3D’s biggest supporter, IMAX, has made the decision to focus more on 2D screenings of Hollywood tentpoles, citing a “clear preference” amongst consumers.
‘LBJ’ Trailer: Woody Harrelson Is a Dead Ringer for Our 36th President
If an esteemed actor gets big enough, you can place a pretty good bet that he’ll be cast as at least one American president in his lifetime. Everyone from Martin Sheen to Jon Voight has played George Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis got extremely in character as Abraham Lincoln, and Robin Williams’ Teddy Roosevelt is one of the joys of the Night at the Museum movies. Since Woody Harrelson is having a real moment these days, it comes as no surprise that he’s been tapped to play one of our most recognizable presidents, Lyndon B. Johnson, in LBJ.
Watch the Stunning Trailer for a New 70mm Restoration of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’
Lawrence of Arabia is one of the most restored movies in cinematic history. Just five years ago for it’s 50th anniversary in 2012 David Lean’s masterpiece got a pristine 4K restoration to mark the occasion, but don’t think that means anyone’s done with it yet. Lawrence of Arabia is returning to theaters soon in 70mm, the way it was meant to be seen, and the new trailer is fittingly gorgeous.
‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ 4K Re-Release Trailer: Those Five Musical Notes Will Still Make You Tear Up
Close Encounters of the Third Kind will forever be one of sci-fi cinema’s most lasting cultural touchstones. One of Spielberg’s best, it’s a beautiful tale of wonder, obsession, and humanity’s relationship with the rest of the cosmos. It’s the kind of movie that posits that, rather than conquer us, all aliens really want to do is be our friends, and it’s coming back to theaters this September in a gorgeous 4K re-release.
Meet the Porgs, the Adorable New ‘Last Jedi’ Creatures You’re Going to Be Obsessed With (If You Aren’t Already)
One of the best things about Star Wars — given that it’s set in a galaxy far, far away full of fabulous planets and fantastic species — is how many weird alien creatures sneak their way into these movies. The original trilogy gave us wampas, banthas, Ewoks, and tauntauns, on Geonosis we saw Anakin, Padme, and Obi-wan fight the reek, the nexu, and (my favorite), the acklay, and The Force Awakens gave us a very thirsty happabore. Earlier this week, Lucasfilm gave us a closer behind-the-scenes look at The Last Jedi and while a lot of the stuff in there was cool, the best part was the porgs.
It’s Man Against Nature and Flaming Bears in the ‘Only the Brave’ Trailer
When it comes to natural disaster movies, the bigger, the better. San Andreas was delightful in its boorish stupidity, The Perfect Storm is a stone-cold classic, and don’t even get me started on how excited I am for Geostorm. Man against nature is the oldest plot in history, which is why it’s about darn time we saw Josh Brolin play a firefighter.
‘The Incredibles 2’ Begins Moments After the Original Ends (Yes, With the Underminer)
The Incredibles 2 is coming, finally, after thirteen long, arduous years of waiting, and while we don’t know much about the actual plot, we do know that it’ll start right where the first movie left off. If you recall, after the Parr family defeats angsty supervillain Syndrome and his marauding Omnidroid, they have a few months of normalcy before another baddie enters the fray. The Underminer, voiced by Jon Ratzenberger, explodes out of the ground at the controls of a massive drilling machine, and the final shot of the movie is the Parrs tensing up for a fight.
Joan Lee, Wife of Marvel’s Stan Lee, Dies at 93
Joan Lee, the wife of Marvel creator Stan Lee, has died at the age of 93. The couple were married for 69 years and had two children.
Yep, Samuel L. Jackson Will Appear as Nick Fury in ‘Captain Marvel’
Earlier this week, rumors swirled that Samuel L. Jackson would reprise his role as Nick Fury for Captain Marvel. The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been living in hiding ever since his last appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he’s set to make a comeback in both installments of Infinity War. And today, we’ve learned that he’ll also show up to recruit Captain Marvel into the fold.
‘Kidnap’ Trailer: Halle Berry Will Not Stop Driving After Her Son’s Kidnapper
Halle Berry is getting her own Taken in Kidnap, which escalates steadily from a child abduction drama into the John Wick of child abduction dramas. When a mother’s kid is stolen, a parent would do anything to get them back. In the newest trailer for Kidnap, Berry does everything.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Time-Traveling Android Is Back in the ‘Terminator 2’ 3-D Re-Release Trailer
It’s a rare thing in Hollywood for a sequel to come close to, or even end up being better than, the original, but James Cameron effortlessly managed that feat with 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The film sees Arnold Schwarzenegger return as the sinister Terminator android, but this time around his intentions are much more heroic. If you’ve been itching to watch this movie on the big screen in as immersive an experience as possible, Cameron and co. have cooked up a re-release of the movie in his new favorite medium: 3-D.
