BREAKING WORLD EXCLUSIVE, MUST CREDIT SCREENCRUSH: Christopher Nolan apparently made a good movie. What an absolute shocker!

That’s the early word with the first reviews of Nolan’s World War II film Dunkirk hitting social media this afternoon. Almost all the reviews so far are positive, with the worst saying it’s a thrilling spectacle but maybe not the most interesting character piece ever in the history of cinema. (See the bottom of this post for that one.)

The rest call the film, based on true events during WWII, “fantastic,” “relentless,” and various other wildly excited adjectives. Plus, just about everyone agrees that Nolan’s first war film is also a must-see on the big screen (preferably in 70mm IMAX if it’s showing that way near you). And, yes, they almost all had good things to say about Harry Styles, too, who plays one of the British soldiers trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk awaiting a rescue from Allied forces. (The film also stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Cillian Murphy.)

We can’t wait. (Our invite must have gotten lost in the mail.) Here’s a sampling of the 140-characters reviews so far:

Consider us sold. (We were already sold, but now we’re double sold. Two tickets, please.) Dunkirk opens in theaters on July 21. We’ll have our own review plus lots more Christopher Nolan coverage before then.
