Calling all Lovatics (aka Demi Lovato fans). The teen queen tweeted a promo photo from her upcoming, top secret MTV special, set to air March 6. The image is striking, but it’s not of Lovato’s beautiful face or expressive eyes. It’s of her hands.

Lovato’s wrists are face up, with her swirly “Stay Strong” script tattoo in full view and adorned by a heart and a lipstick kiss on either side. She’s also sporting dangerous, sharpened-to-a-point, black lacquered dagger nails. Those things could do some damage.We hope Demi doesn’t wear contacts or she’d need a personal assistant to help her remove them thanks to those talons.

The photo is certainly meant to capture Lovato’s fierce, never-give-up quality, which made her a role model for teens dealing with eating disorders and bullying. She posted this tweet along with the image: “Lovatics-I wanted to tell you FIRST about a special I worked on with @MTV. It premieres March 6th at 10pm!”

Further details about the special are scarce, but one can surmise that it’s going to detail her 2010 rehab stint. Lovato has been dogged by return-to-rehab rumors for several weeks, all of which she and her handlers have denied. Demi is indeed staying strong.

Whitney Houston may have had one of the most recognizable voices in pop music, which brought her great success, fame and fortune. Apparently, the singer’s financial resources may have dwindled down to almost nothing, since her family sold footage of her celebrity-attended funeral to a variety of global media outlets.

Apparently, the family elected to sell the footage in order to raise money for the singer’s sole heir, daughter Bobbi Kristina, 18. That’s why it would seem that Houston didn’t leave much behind.

The funeral took place on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Houston’s Newark, N.J. hometown. She was eulogized by her ‘The Bodyguard’ co-star Kevin Costner and serenaded by Alicia Keys. The funeral aired on CNN and several online outlets via The Associated Press, but all footage was offline and non-viewable the very next day.

A spokesperson for the family told TMZ that the executors of Houston’s estate “agreed to license footage to several media outlets for customary fees.” Those “customary fees” are being set aside to “maximize the estate for the benefit of Bobbi Kristina.”

Hmm, that sounds like jargon-heavy way to say that Houston was broke and/or didn’t leave much behind for her only child in terms of money. Why else would the family need to sell private footage on Bobbi Kris’ behalf?

At least this money-making endeavor is for a good cause, since Bobbi Kris is in a lot of pain over the loss of her mother at such a young age; Houston was just 48. However, an auction of Houston items is set for next month, and that feels a little tacky and entirely too soon after the pop diva’s death, even though the auction house claims that their sale is helping to preserve the singer’s legacy and history.

Yeah, there’s a better way to preserve Houston’s legacy and history. Those are called albums.

Theft charges serious enough to warrant a jury trial typically involve stolen goods that are pretty expensive (just ask Lindsay Lohan about that).

But you don’t have to steal high-dollar stuff to get in that kind of trouble — in fact, a New Mexico college student is about to go on trial for allegedly forgetting to pay for a $2 pumpkin.

Lauren Medina, 23, will have her day in court on Tuesday. She’s accused of stealing the small gourd from a local pumpkin patch in October.

But her sister, Annette Atencio, says the whole thing was a big misunderstanding that’s been completely overblown. On that fateful day last year, the two siblings had enjoyed a day at the pumpkin patch, spending $75 on funnel cakes and other food. When they left, Medina simply forgot to pay for the pumpkin, Atencio says.

When police approached them, Atencio maintains her sister apologized and immediately offered to pony up the cash, but the cops refused and “she was handcuffed immediately — end of story, no ifs or buts.”

After Medina was given an order to appear in court, she thought the charges would be dropped. Instead, prosecutors gave her the option of pleading guilty and doing probation — and when she refused, the case was remanded to trial.

Atencio is infuriated by the debacle, especially because her sister has never been in trouble with the law before. “I’m in disbelief,” she said. “The more I talk about it, the angrier I get.”

In the beginning of the third episode of ‘Smash’ titled ‘Enter Mr. DiMaggio’, Ivy (Megan Hilty) is still sleeping with Derek (Jack Davenport) the director, but he treats her as more of his employee than his lover. Ivy confesses her concern to her friends that she only got the part because she slept with him.

Meanwhile Eileen (Anjelica Houston) sells her expensive jewelry, showing us that this broadway show’s producer is tight on cash. Then when Derek invites Karen (Katherine McPhee) for a drink to discuss his career, her jealous boyfriend Dev shows up and the men match wits.

Derek, Eileen, Tom (Christian Borle) and Julia (Debra Messing) the creators, start looking for a Joe DiMaggio for their musical production about Marilyn Monroe. They visit a current musical to seek out Michael Swift (Will Chase) who performs a rock version of Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade’. Simultaneously Karen worries about this Marilyn workshop taking up too much time and not beng able to pay her bills. Tom and Julia are working on the show but for some reason Julia is extremely against working with Michael, and when we see Michael at home with his family, he is equally unsure for unknown reasons.

A fiend of Ellis convinces Ellis that Tom and Julia should pay him for his idea of making Marilyn a musical. As a result the next day Ellis steals Julia’s notebook full of ideas. Karen travels back home to Iowa for a friend’s baby shower, which is a stark difference from New York’s city streets. Ivy is paranoid about Derek not calling her, but he cunningly redeems himself by surprising her at her current show and sleeps with her in her dressing room.

Michael and Julia run into each other at the office, and it becomes apparent that the reason why the two have been uneasy is because they have a history together. Michael reveals to her that he accepts the part of DiMaggio, despite the audience knowing that he’s worried about supporting his family.

Tom finds out from one of Ivy’s friends about Derek sleeping with her. Tom is furious and argues with Julia about it. Ellis stands up to Julia and threatens her authority, and then gives her back her notebook under the assumption that he “found it.”

Back in Iowa at the baby shower, Karen’s friends convince her to sing karaoke in the bar. She performs ‘Redneck Woman’ by Gretchen Wilson. This number is incredible, with McPhee truly showcasing her different range of vocal talents.

In New York, after a round of sex, Ivy confronts Derek on why they never go to his place. He explains in embarrassment that his kitchen isn’t working. She admits that she thought he didn’t want her over and he responds sweetly “Darling, I want you everywhere.”

The next day Julia and Tom make up after their fight, and then Julia confesses to having an affair with Michael five years ago that lasted a long time. We are given a flashback of Julia and Michael kissing on the Brooklyn Bridge, and Tom consoles her knowing that she truly cared about him. However, a conniving Ellis overhears them in the next room.

In Iowa Karen gives her parents her own pep talk that she’s doing just fine; that although her work now may be small, its more than most people will ever get to do. Her dad gives her a check and admits to seeing her performance of ‘Redneck Woman’ the night before. Karen then grabs her bags and heads back to New York City.

The episode closes with Ivy and Michael singing the musical original ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ in the studio. During the montage are scenes of Julia watching Michael sing dejectedly, but then her distant at home with her husband, and finally Ivy and Tom as Marilyn and Joe on stage.

What will happen between Ivy and the misleading director Derek? Will Ellis use his acquired secret for evil? And what on earth is waiting for our starlet Karen around the corner?

Facing huge budget shortfalls, the United States Postal Service has proposed solutions including closing hundreds of post offices and eliminating Saturday deliveries. Now it may be considering jacking up the price of stamps, too.

The popularity of internet services like online bill pay have led in part to a 1.7 percent decline in mail volume, causing the USPS to anticipate losing $14.1 billion in 2012 — with bigger losses expected in the years to come.

In response, postal officials sent a letter to Congress last Thursday in which they recommended several changes, including the possibility of increasing the price of a stamp from its current 45 cents up to 50 cents. While stamp prices have gone up four times since 2006, chief financial officer Joe Corbett said, “Clearly, we’re [still] underpriced [and] would like the ability to move that price up.”

The USPS says the extra nickel, which would likely be added in one or two-cent increments until 2015, would raise revenues by $1 billion annually. Although taxpayers don’t foot the bill to keep the postal service running, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe told Congress that failing to help the organization limit its losses would result in a “long-term burden to the American taxpayer.”

Billy Crystal returns to host the 84th Academy Awards this Sunday night, February 26th on ABC. This will be Crystal’s ninth time to play host to Hollywood’s biggest night. Johnny Carson hosted  five times, Jack Lemmon and Whoopi Goldberg each have four, but the host with the most times at the microphone was Bob Hope with an amazing nineteen hosting gigs going back as far as 1939.

It’s hard to pick a favorite host for an award show that has such a long history as the Oscars, but my top three would be Johnny Carson, Bob Hope and Billy Crystal. You may notice I like the funny guys.

The Academy Awards show is one of the very few awards shows I watch anymore, and it’s usually not because I care which movie wins top picture of the year, most of those I never see anyway, or who gets the top actor or actress nod, my motivations are purely entertainment driven. I watch for the inevitable train wrecks, you know; who’s going to show up wearing a bird suit, who’s going to be falling out of her dress, who’s going to drop the F-bomb trying to fumble through an acceptance speech, who’s going to make a complete idiot of themselves trying to spout some leftist political statement just because they have been given a microphone and one minute with a huge TV audience? Who, who, who? The train wrecks happen every year, and personally, I can’t wait to see who makes them.

Sometimes the hosting duties are the biggest train wrecks of the night; 2011′s James Franco and Anne Hathaway were not very well received or reviewed. While Chris Rock managed to keep it pretty clean in 2004, he was a bit rough on actors that night and “for some reason” hasn’t been invited back. Could be it has something to do with biting the hand that feeds you. Just saying.

Since we don’t know how it’s going to go this year yet, how about we get your opinions on who you think has been the best host of the Oscars since the turn of the century.

Rick Silva, the head of Checkers and Rally’s drive-in restaurants was featured on the latest episode of ‘Undercover Boss.’ Like the other sneaky bosses before him, the CEO donned a disguise and pretended he was just a lowly employee, in this case at a Checkers’ franchise in Homestead, Florida. And it was also the first case of a boss breaking his cover and shutting down the workplace on the spot. 

During his undercover stint, Silva became bothered by the restaurant’s managers treatment of a fry cook named Todd. Not only did the manager, known only as “Stevens,” berate Todd harshly, but he threatened to take the employee outside and beat him if he didn’t work harder.

Shocked by Stevens’ tone, Silva asked to speak with him outside. First, Stevens explained that he had to scream at his staff or they wouldn’t listen. Then he began to question why Silva had the right to question him on how he handles his workers.

Silva tried to remain in character, but when Stevens continued to press him on his credentials he finally snapped

“I have been in the restaurant business for over 20 years. And I’ve been in the fast food business for over 20 years. I’m CEO for this company,” Silva explained.

Stevens was understandably crestfallen by this revelation. Silva was so angry about what he had seen that he shut the restaurant down on the spot. But don’t worry, it was reopened the next day with a new manager, so nobody lost their job. In fact, Silva even retained Stevens, who was ordered to undergo more job training. LMFAO‘s ‘Sorry for Party Rocking’ video features a house party scene that recalls the ’90s rap duo Kid ‘n Play — and features an ironic cameo from Kid himself.

Kid ‘n Play starred in the 1990 film ‘House Party,’ and that’s the theme of the seven-minute video, which begins with LMFAO’s ‘Sexy and I Know It’ blaring from a nearby house. A cranky neighbor complains about the noise and promises to do something about it.

The neighbor makes his way through the crowd of confetti, inflatable zebras and costumed dancers to reach the front door, where he gives RedFoo an earful. RedFoo responds by merely changing the song to ‘Sorry for Party Rocking,’ and the loud celebration continues.

The neighbor calls police, and several units are dispatched to the house. The production values are intentionally poor — the cops all travel in cardboard cutouts of cars, like you’d see in a high school play, which adds another layer of comedy to the video. When police finally show up, RedFoo turns around and puts his hands behind his back, expecting handcuffs. Instead, the cops, along with the mail carrier and pizza boy, all join the party.

About the only person who never makes it to the party is poor Sky Blu. He raps his lines from a car that appears headed for the shindig but never quite gets there. His most exciting moment comes when he randomly runs into fellow driver David Hasselhoff while stopped at a red light.

When the song concludes, an exhausted RedFoo is carried out on a stretcher, but the party goes on. As the camera focuses on one party-goer sporting an old-school Kid ‘n Play-style hi-top fade haircut, now 47-year-old Christopher “Kid” Reid starts banging on the door. In a role reversal from his early ’90s persona, Kid is now trying to stop the party. “People, can we get it quiet down here? They clearly said no house parties in the neighborhood!”

The cranky neighbor’s wife, who has joined in the fun, responds angrily: “No you did not talk like that in front of me and my new man. I got a new kid to play with. Sorry for party rocking!”

During the regular session Texarkana Water Utilities Executive Director Bill King will offer the board a presentation regarding water and sewer infrastructure. The board will also consider appointments to various boards and commissions.

There will also be an executive session. The public is invited to attend the open portion of tonight’s meeting.

The move to cut baseball, softball, and golf will save the college a half million dollars annually and mean the loss of coaching jobs . Also the board voted to eliminate the counseling department in the Enrollment Management Division.. Those cuts should save over $178,000 annually as well.

The Texarkana College Foundation Board President Dr. Andrew Curry reported that the foundations pledge of $1 million for the college to use as needed for the current year operating budget is available. Those funds will not be used until the time the chief financial officer of the college recommends to the President James Henry Russell that a need exists.

Regardless of age, or what moment you’re looking forward to during the 2012 Academy Awards, this is the perfect time to host a divine Oscar party with friends!

How do you host the perfect party? Remember that Oscar’s big night is a lot like watching the Super Bowl, so everyone will be glued around the television set. Folks need to have a lot room to sprawl out and enjoy the show. Make sure everyone will be able to view the television, then count how many seats you really have available.

Decide whether you want to go fancy or keep it simple.  Do you want to roll out a red carpet, create a media backdrop for snapping photos, and have everyone wear black tie? Or can they merely don their favorite track suits, zhuzh them up a bit with some sparkly bling and sip their favorite adult beverages? Either way, you’re sure to have a good time. Once you make your decision, send out the invitations.

The coaches are eager to fill their teams with the required 12 singers, so spots filled up on Week 3 of the Blind Auditions of Season 2 of ‘The Voice.’ We see them still encouraging each other to push the button for singers they think are right for the other, with Christina Aguilera often encouraging Adam Levine and Cee Lo to push their giant buzzers, while Blake Shelton muses about contestants being good-looking.

Host Carson Daly has a hard job, stationing himself backstage with the singer’s families and friends, expressing frustration and bewilderment when the judges don’t turn their chairs around. He’s in an unenviable position of having to comfort families when contestant dreams are destroyed. But he remains likeable and supportive the whole time.

We’re wondering if the judges are getting whiplash from turning around so fast, too.

We’ve noticed that Shelton almost always turns his chair around immediately. He just knows from the get-go. Levine is incredibly picky and bends over his button while absorbing a perf. Xtina and Cee Lo also take quite some time to smash their buzzers. Shelton truly makes this show funny. One question though. What’s with the cat that Cee Lo was cradling during his interviews?

Ducky: He’s 26 and from Carlisle, Penn. He’s a painter of murals and possessor of a curly-cue mustache. He sang ‘Tighten Up’ while wearing red shoes. He sang with a strong, smoky, rock ‘n’ roll voice but none of the coaches turned their chairs around. WTF, coaches? He was good.

Jonathas: This well-coifed 23-year-old is a father of two and his kids are too freakin’ cute. He is also from South America and emigrated north knowing absolutely no English. He sang ‘U Got It Bad’ in a buttery, silky smooth voice like Usher, while his gyrating pelvis got the ladies on their feet. Cee Lo and Christina wanted him, since he played to their urban sensibility. He chose Xtina. [Watch It here]

Monique Benabou: A Nor Cal girl with loads of curls who took care of her breast cancer-riddled mother while in college, Monique is perkier than a cup of coffee and looks a bit like Gloria Estefan. She sang Kelly Clarkson‘s ‘Mr. Know It All’ with a crystalline, femme voice and remained consistent throughout. Xtina chose her. [Watch It here]

Naia Kete: This dreadlocked artist is a street musician at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. She performed ‘The Lazy Song’ by Bruno Mars, strumming her guitar and showing range in an earthy style. Blake turned his chair around immediately, and was followed by Cee Lo. She sounds like a Blake-preferred singer (remember Dia and Xenia?) so she chose him. They are a perfect fit. [Watch It here]

Charlotte Sometimes: A disintegrating jaw nearly stopped this fairytale-monikered New Jersey singer from doing her thing. She had her jaw wired shut and wrote songs on the guitar while recovering, humming the melodies. She sang ‘Apologize’ and sounded like Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch and last season’s Xenia. All four coaches wanted her and she chose Blake. Another wise choice, since he really does have the magic touch with the female singers.

Erick Macek: Erick’s parents came from the former Czechoslovakia to give him a better life. He is pursuing the American dream and sang ‘Free Fallin” in what we thought was an Adam Levine-approved voice but no one was fallin’ for him or turned around. For the second time tonight, WTF coaches?

Tony Vincent: ‘Rent,’ ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and ‘American Idiot’ litter his resume. He’s a Broadway veteran at 38, but his heart is in the pop world and he wants to be on ‘The Voice’ because of its integrity. He bravely sang ‘We Are the Champions’ and had dramatic range like Freddie Mercury. Cee Lo chose him. It is a perfect match, since Cee Lo is, as Shelton put it, the king of over-the-top. Anthony Evans: A pastor’s son, 33-year-old Anthony has gospel singer history. He sang ‘What’s Going On’ and Cee Lo was thisclose to picking him when Christina snatched him up. [Watch It here]

Jamie Lono: The sandwich maker who had a lung removed soulfully sang ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ and Adam Levine turned around within seconds, which is rare for him. Cee Lo followed suit. Lono said “I make sandwiches for a living” to which Cee Lo replied, “I eat sandwiches” so that’s cosmic proof they should hook up, professionally speaking. That sealed the deal. [Watch It here]

Dylan Chambers: His mother has a Broadway background. He sang ‘Valerie’ in a show tune style with a falsetto. But no judge chose him. For the third time tonight, WTF, coaches?

Justin Hopkins: He was the guitarist in the house band for ‘Last Call With Carson Daly.’ He sang a rugged version of ‘Babylon’ and before he did so, he said he wanted Cee Lo to chose him. Well he got ‘em. [Watch It here]

Nicolle Galyon: Nicolle wants to be the girl who brings piano to country music, to which everyone tells her she needs to take up the guitar. She has a sweet girl twang like Taylor Swift. She offered up a sensitive rendition of Kenny Chesney‘s ‘You Save Me.’ The always-picky Adam Levine chose her, calling her “special.”

Ashley de la Rosa: Xtina chose her for her version of ‘Sharks in the Water.’ This was a truncated audition, so we saw like 10 seconds.

Jordan Rager: Great name. He sang Zac Brown Band‘s ‘Chicken Fried’ and of course the country coach Shelton chose him, calling him a “real, genuine country singer.” See above re: shortened audition.

Karla Davis: She sang The Band Perry‘s ‘If I Die Young,’ which got her drafted to Adam’s team. Another 10 second performance.

Alyx: Blake selected her after her version of ‘Just Like a Pill’ by Pink. We saw about 11 seconds of her aud, but we know Blake and the ladies do well.

Eric Tipton: At six feet tall and 300 lbs., he sings old school soul. He could have been this season’s Nakia! He sang ‘You Make My Dreams’ by Hall and Oates but no one chose him. Boo. We liked him. That’s the fourth WTF, coaches?

Mathai: She is from a family of doctors, but chose music over med school. Her dreamy (and ballsy) take on Adele‘s ‘Rumor Has It’ had all the male coaches turned around for her. She chose Adam. [Watch It here]

The world will finally get a taste of the highly anticipated ‘Birthday Cake’ remix. Rihanna snagged former flame Chris Brown to feature on the track, much to the chagrin of the brass. While we can’t speak for their potential romantic reunion, their musical one may not be such a bad idea.

The ‘Birthday Cake’ remix is three times the length of the original brief ‘Talk That Talk’ track. The raunchy bedroom anthem is extra steamy considering the couple’s rollercoaster history. Based on rampant rumors of their downlow hookups, when Breezy sings, “Girl I wanna f— you right now / It’s been a long time / I’ve been missing your body,” you believe him.

Breezy’s own ‘Turn Up the Music’ remix was released today, also featuring RiRi. While critics and fans were both wary of the collaborations (and understandably so), from a purely musical standpoint, they duo makes an effective team.

Whether you believe or agree with the allegations of a reignited romantic flame, the heat between these two is undeniable. We blame the birthday candles.

The new edition is set for release on March 22 and will join the original version, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Facebook in Rovio’s Angry Birds’ franchise. If all games and platforms are included, Angry Birds has been downloaded over 700 million times since first launching in 2009.

While the trailer doesn’t give anything away about the game play, it is reported that Angry Birds Space will feature zero gravity levels, slow motion puzzles and some completly new birds. Rovio will also be partnering with two familiar names on the project.

“Science and education are very important to us, and we’re very excited to have NASA and National Geographic as launch partners on Angry Birds Space,” Andrew Stalbow, GM of Rovio North America, told Yahoo Games.

According to Stalbow, more details about the latest of their highly addictive bird-flinging game will be released in early March.

Who doesn’t love a good buddy flick? Maybe it’s because even when we’re down on our luck, our current romance has gone to hell, and our list of old flames looks like it came from America’s Most Wanted, most of us can usually take some comfort in the company of a good friend. Our pals know how to pick us up, cheer us on, and keep us from popping one too many Ambien.

My appreciation for the camaraderie I share with my own amigos is one of the reasons I really looked forward to the release of “This Means War,” the newest film to join the buddy flick category. FDR (Chris Pine, “Star Trek” and “Unstoppable“) and Tuck (Tom Hardy, “Warrior” and “Inception“) play two spies who also happen to be best friends. They’ve survived plenty of perilous moments throughout the course of their friendship and their careers, from dodging bullets to hanging off the edge of skyscrapers. But when they both fall for Lauren (Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon, “Water for Elephants” and “Walk the Line”), their friendship may not survive.

The film starts out great, with the spies chasing down the bad guys via James Bond or Jason Bourne. FDR is suave, debonair and worldly-wise while Tuck is a sweet single dad with a license to kill. Both have awesome moves and their banter is lighthearted and fun. These guys take care of one another, on the job and off, and their relationship rings authentic throughout the film.

Unfortunately, when Lauren comes on the scene, FDR and Tuck lose all semblance of self. Suddenly, they become predictable Lotharios determined to get the girl, if for no other obvious reason than to stroke their egos. But as Lauren dates both men, egged on by Trish (Chelsea Handler), the obnoxious best friend who wants to live vicariously through her pal, the relationship between girlfriends muddies the waters in this movie.

For whatever reason, director McG (“Terminator Salvation”) can’t seem to decide if he wants this movie to be a buddy flick, a romantic comedy or a debate about women’s rights. Sure, there are films that successfully cross genres and even tackle serious topics with a comic twist. But that doesn’t happen here.

In the end, this was one critic who went to the cinema with great expectations, eager to enjoy a fun night at the movies. But sadly, I left feeling cheated because such a marvelous cast could have been put to better use if the story weren’t so predictable, the characters one-dimensional and the director so confused. I give “This Means War” three out of five stars.

This film is rated PG-13 for sexual content including references, some violence and action, and for language.

While Aretha Franklin was too ill to attend goddaughter Whitney Houston‘s funeral, she did perform two moving tributes to the fallen singer at Radio City Music Hall.

“This honors one of the greatest singers that ever stood in front of a microphone,” Franklin said, even her speaking voice musical in its lilt. “I’m speaking of none other than Whitney Elizabeth Houston.” “May you always remember her kindness, her grace, her smile and her dynamic performances,” Franklin said. “She has moved on up just a little bit higher. We don’t wonder where she is. One of the last songs that she sung was ‘Yes, Jesus Loves Me.’ When God for is you, who can be against you? That’s all that really matters.”

“Remembering again a young lady who was kind. She was so gracious and elegant … Remembering Nippy,” Franklin said of her goddaughter. She then launched into Houston’s breakout hit, ‘The Greatest Love Of All.’

Just before breaking into Houston’s signature song, Franklin offered soothing words once more. ”Remember the hits. Forget the misses. I will always look back and remember her singing, ‘I Will Always Love You.’”
