Happy New Year! Well, 2015 is finally here and as many Americans begin to make their new year's resolutions why not make it a goal to give the gift of life blood? January is National Blood Donor Month and Carter BloodCare urges you to give blood this month and make it a part of your regular wellness goals for 2015. Did you know blood donors make up less than four percent of the population? That means that up to 37 percent of the population is eligible to give blood at any time. National Blood Donor Month provides an opportunity for people to donate blood or pledge to give blood at a time of the year when it is typically in short supply and demand.

Walmart Neighborhood Market in De Kalb is hosting a blood drive at its health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, at 101 Maples Street on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or an appointment, please call Lanie Jennings at (903) 571-0812.

In January, all blood donors will receive a Coca-Cola collectible cup and be entered to win an antique replica Coca-Cola cooler and/or a $100 gift card to Walgreens.

Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17 year olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. For more information go to CarterBloodCare.Org.
