Joss Whedon may have disappeared from social media (for a time), but the Avengers director and TV icon is back in more ways than one. Not only is Whedon back on Twitter, but he’s working on a new horror film set during World War II, and — despite his self-admitted exhaustion from working with Marvel — he’s ready to direct another big franchise film. Ideally, he wants to make one of those Star Wars movies.

Whedon covers a lot of topics in his new interview with Complex, including his favorite TV shows (like most of us, he loves The Great British Bake-Off), his thoughts on DC movies, and what he’s working on next. That would be what he describes as a  ”historical fiction slash horror movie about a time when the world was going insane, World War II.” While researching the film in Poland and Germany, Whedon says he found some “eerie as f—” parallels between propaganda from that era and a certain, controversial presidential candidate.

Now that he’s working on an original film again, would he consider directing another big franchise movie? Although the Avengers films took quite a toll on him, Whedon says yes, but he doesn’t want to make another Marvel movie — he wants to make a Star Wars film:

Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah. I was like, ‘I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie. Like, god dammit, why?’ But I saw the trailer for Rogue awhile ago and I was like, ‘I want to do that.’ To make a Star Wars movie and not be wed to the bigger picture.

And maybe that’s the key to Whedon’s happiness — making a franchise movie that isn’t beholden to the larger framework; one that doesn’t have as many moving pieces to juggle in terms of continuity and tying itself to established films while setting up events to come two, three or even four years down the line. A Star Wars anthology film might be just the thing, and last we heard, Lucasfilm is still looking for a director to take on a third Star Wars Story project (the one Josh Trank was previously attached to helm).

So call Joss, maybe?
