The imminent live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast looks wonderful, sure, but it’s sorely lacking the presence of Angela Lansbury, particularly in the musical department. Rest assured that Disney recognizes your disappointment and they, too, feel as though we could all desperately use a little Lansbury magic in our lives — thus, a solution has emerged: The artist formerly known as Jessica Fletcher will generously grace the Mary Poppins sequel with her presence.

Disney has officially announced Lansbury’s addition to the cast of Mary Poppins Returns, the upcoming sequel to the 1964 musical classic. Emily Blunt will take on the role originated by Julie Andrews as the whimsical nanny, returning several years later to help Michael and Jane, who are now all grown up with family troubles of their own. Lansbury’s role is that of the Balloon Lady, a memorable character from P.L. Travers’ original Mary Poppins books.

Mary Poppins Returns boasts a fantastic cast filled with pleasant people, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters, with Dick Van Dyke reprising his role from the original film.

Here’s the official description from Disney:

The film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

Rob Marshall is directing Mary Poppins Returns, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2018.
