Federal prosecutors announced today that Shannon Richardson, 35, of New Boston, Texas has been officially charged following her arrest on June 7 after she allegedly sent ricin-poisoned letters to President Barack Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Mark Glaze.

According to NBC News, Richardson originally contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigations and tried to implicate her husband in the crime, but "investigators say they found evidence that she sent the letters herself."

Reuters also reported that her husband, Army veteran Nathaniel Richardson, filed for divorce earlier this month.

The letters, which were in response to the stricter gun control laws that both Obama and Bloomberg have pushed for, were originally discovered during routine mail screenings and were all postmarked from Shreveport, La.

Richardson's charges include one count of threatening the president and two counts of mailing a threatening communication. Each count has a maximum sentence of up to five years.

Richardson is an actress who has performed minor roles on shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead.
