Texas High School will host an area robotics practice meet Thursday at the school.Texarkana Independent School District will host a Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Mindstorms Robotics Practice Meet on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Texas Middle School  Black Box Theatre at 2100 College Drive.  The event is free and the public is welcomed to attend.

An estimated 45 teams, grades five through eight from TISD, New Boston Middle School and St. James Day School will be competing in the “Food Frenzy” Arena Challenge.  The challenge has students competing in the design of a low-cost robotics farm platform that will bring water to the regular food growing areas, manage the food pod units in the super-fertile areas of the farm, grow the experimental food and harvest the grown food.

“Our practice meet will provide those students who are going to regional competitions with an additional practice qualifying match and will also provide elementary students, who have just begun their robotics experience, with the opportunity to practice in a simulated competition environment,” said Ronda Jameson, Director of STEM Education for TISD.

“Live robotics competition will be in the TMS Black Box Theatre, which is also where audience seating is available, and the TMS cafeteria has been set up as the pit staging section for teams to work on their robots between matches. We will be running two tables with four teams competing at a time.” she continued.

The Texas High School T-BOTS (Tigers Building Outstanding Technology Systems) will serve as competition judges and provide tech support for the participating student teams.
