Texarkana, Texas Police responded to a report of a burglary-in-progress earlier today after a property owner observed four men removing items from a storage unit on Forest Lake Drive.

At approximately 10 a.m., the unit owner observed four white males reportedly stealing appliances from a storage unit. While the owner was speaking to a 9-1-1 dispatcher to report the suspicious circumstances, the men reportedly fled in a white Dodge pickup and a pewter (blueish-gray) Chevrolet pickup and crashed through the perimeter fence.

The storage unit owner tried to pursue them as they drove south on Stateline Avenue. The Dodge pickup veered across the roadway in the 6100 block of Stateline (across from Opportunities Inc.) and drove through a construction site in an effort to elude the owner. A washing machine that had allegedly been stolen during the burglary was thrown from the back of the truck as the vehicle was driven across the field.

Police said the vehicle then travelled approximately 100 yards into a wooded area before getting stuck and was ultimately abandoned. The second vehicle continued on Stateline Avenue and was found abandoned a short time later behind Naaman’s BBQ in the 5300 block of Stateline Avenue.

Officers were assisted by Texarkana, Ark., Police Department as they searched the area for the suspects who had fled. No arrests have been made at this point. Detectives continue to investigate the crime.
