Texting While Watching a Movie? I Don’t Think So AMC Theaters [OPINION]

Today I saw in an interview in Variety. Adam Aron, the new CEO of AMC Theaters says he's considering allowing people to text while the movie is playing. What? Really?

Paraphrasing his comment, Aron said asking twentysomethings to turn off their phone is like asking them to remove their arm.

No, it's not.

What it is asking them to do is something that seems to be getting harder and harder for our young people to comprehend -- have some friggin' manners!

We have all paid our $15 to $20,000 to get into this three-hour summer blockbuster and loaded up with smuggled-in drinks, candy, or hot dogs and by golly I want to see this movie with as little interruption from the light on your cell phone or tablet or any other device you may have brought to disturb me. That includes your mouth by the way.

You CAN put that thing in your pocket or purse for the duration of the film. If you can't, you need some serious help. If you want to look at it through the previews of coming attractions that's fine by me. But when it's time for the movie to start, put it up.

Thank goodness we don't have an AMC theater in Texarkana, at least not yet. So far, I haven't heard anything about the folks at Cinemark even considering these kinds of shenanigans. Let's hope it stays that way.
