Short, but sweet is the name of the game for our imminent X-Files revival, two mythology episodes sandwiching four classic standalone cases. Many a fan have already seen or caught wind of the January 24 premiere “My Struggle,” but find out what super-powered strangeness brings Mulder and Scully back together in the two-night premiere’s second hour “Founder’s Mutation”!

Shifting around the initial order a bit (production listed “Founders Mutation” at episode 5, before FOX apparently moved it up ahead of “Home Again”), so reads the official press synopsis for the short new season’s second hour:

MULDER AND SCULLY INVESTIGATE A DOCTOR WITH UNSCRUPULOUS PRACTICES ON PART TWO OF THE TWO-NIGHT SEASON PREMIERE OF “THE X-FILES” MONDAY, JANUARY 25, ON FOX

When a scientist suddenly commits suicide, Mulder and Scully investigate what unseen force may have driven him to it. What they uncover is a laboratory where extreme genetic experimentation has been going on for decades, breeding subjects who possess unexpected and dangerous powers - and who harbor deep resentments in the all-new “Founder’s Mutation” season premiere, part two, episode of THE X-FILES airing Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Guest Cast: Doug Savant as Augustus Goldman, Jonathan Whitesell as Janitor, Rebecca Wisocky as Jackie Goldman, Chris Logan as Dr. Sanjay, Omari Newton as Rogers, Nikolai Witschl as Dr. Hill, Alison Wandzura as Cynthia, Aaron Douglas as Lindquist, Vik Sahay as Gupta, Ryan Robbins as Murphy, Christine Willes as Sister Mary, Kacey Rohl as Agnes, Craig March as Detective Gordon.

Thus far, FOX’s X-Files return has confirmed the Lone Gunmen, Annabeth Gish, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis to reprise their roles beside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, while Community star Joel McHale will play a conservative pundit who tasks Mulder and Scully with investigating a woman claiming to have been abducted (The Americans star Annet Mahendru). Additionally, comedian and superfan Kumail Nanjiani will play a small role, while Flash star Robbie Amell and Six Feet Under alum Lauren Ambrose will play a pair of confident new FBI agents.

On the creative side, writers and producers Chris Carter, Glen Morgan and Jim Wong will return to write and direct, and composer Mark Snow also aboard. Plenty more details will arise before the official January 24 premiere, but rewatch the X-Files trailers below, and prepare for the truth to return this month.
